The Living Online Lab (LOL) is run by Professor Sarita Schoenebeck at the University of Michigan’s School of Information. Our research group studies social media use in daily life with a focus on how individuals manage their use of social media. We draw on theories from computer-mediated communication, social psychology, and learning to guide our research. Our current projects include studies of family technology use and social media use among parents. Our methods include qualitative interviews, quantitative analyses of online data, and software development. Our research draws on an HCI approach (human-computer interaction) that use formative and summative evaluations and iterative design processes.
